Thursday, February 25, 2016, I attended a home visit with a family on my own, who is enrolled in the IPP program. The family who is enrolled in the IPP program are seeking services due to the child not eating solid foods and is still relying on a special liquid formula. The child is two year old boy and participates in therapy at least twice a week. The therapists who is providing services was not present during the home visit, but her role is very important.

Purpose of the Session Every week the mother, child, and therapists, Beth Pruitt, works on the young boy’s feeding habits. Since the child is not comfortable with people or things approaching his mouth, the task is to make the child feel more safe at things that approach his mouth area.

Immediately to the right the family has made an play area for both children, filled with books, a teepee, cars/trucks, baby dolls, chair and table set, and a marker board. Although the home visit was rescheduled she was very inviting and quickly prepared the area in which therapy is usually completed. I was shocked that the mother would want to work on the therapy. Although I don 't work in this capacity, I was eager to see how the home visit would go without Beth. During the home visit, I was ambitious to make this visit meaningful and assumed my role as the previous visit. I allowed the mom to take charge. During the interaction, the child seemed more distracted and not very participatory compared the visit conducted by Beth. The young boy could have been having a different morning, mom said he may be becoming sick or that he could be missing Beth’s …show more content…
She offered for me to assist her in working with the child. She apologized for the her one looked and began to prepare his table and chair with therapy tools and snacks. She also put on Elmo, because it creates another distraction for the child. A therapy that was done was making the child feel content with objects approaching his mouth and entering his mouth without gagging. The mom and I did these things repeatedly throughout the 30 minutes of therapy. The mother introduced the applesauce snack several ways. She placed it on the mouthing probes and toys, with the child’s pacifier, and through her finger. During the therapy visit the child did more gagging and more defensive moves versus the times in which Beth is there. After the thirty minute timer rang, the young boy said, “all done” and the therapy ended. Also during the visit the mom and I spoke with one another about the child and how he grew up, she also talked about her family and their relocation to

People have personal definitions of home. It could be where their loved ones are, where they grew up, where their heart is, or where their dog is. If one thing is certain about all these, it’s that home is where you feel a strong sense of belonging, security, and love. Finding all of these things in one place in your life can be a challenge for some, but everyone has some form of home. I have found my own definition in home. Home is no specific place and in fact can be multiple places; however, it will always be somewhere where I feel perfectly content about everything around me.…

Toni, age 40, welcomed me home and immediately met Tim, the father age 43, with all three children Alec, age 6, Bryce, age 4, and Carly, one year old. After presenting ourselves, suggested they continue to their daily routine. Toni then directed me downstairs to the children 's play room. The playroom exhibited a vast amount of toys the children could play with. The children also had a second playroom. Intrigued by how the children followed with their daily activities, the children would throw their toys around from time to time without any regard if they broke or not. In the meantime, I briefly conversated with the children on how they treated their toys. The boys stated that the toys would sometimes break but their father would eventually fix them. The boys did exhibit some aggressive traits and onsets of unrest. The day followed into snack time where Bryce was demanding a certain snack, lacking any authoritative respect towards both parents. Neither parent were able to correctly address the situation. The mother is left behind to clean the dinning hall where snack time took place. At the same time, Tim took all three children downstairs to the playroom. Conversing with Toni, she explains how she would rather play with the children instead of always being left behind to clean any mess done by the children. She showed signs of uneasiness and frustration when talking about their unequal…

Douglas is a 5 year-old boy referred for evaluation due to concerning behavioral issues. He was adopted from a Romanian orphanage at the age of 2-1/2 years old. Prior to adoption, Douglas’ adoptive parents visited him in the orphanage. The facility appeared clean, orderly, and well run, which comforted the couple. Upon medical examination Douglas was found in excellent health. He approached his future parents upon introduction with warmth and openness, giving each an enthusiastic hug that encouraged them greatly. Not long after adoption, Douglas began seeking comfort from his mother when distressed, however, most other times he did not readily distinguish between strangers and his parents. In the park, he would play with little awareness or concern to his mother’s location. Often he would attempt to sit in people’s laps that he had just met and twice attempted to leave with another family. Douglas’ parents are greatly concerned by this behavior, fearing that with any distraction on their part he may be lost, or worse case, be abducted. According to his teacher, he has difficulty taking turns with other children, is often not respectful of their personal space, and occasionally has problems with…
