The Home of the Catalysts art project explored the components that led to the ultimate change of Guy Montag's character. The main symbols included in the piece are a porch, chairs, books, dandelions, the bible, and of course, the burning of Mrs. Blake's stash of books. Each item/event included in the piece is strategically placed to prove the way and order in which certain things lead to Montag's conversion. At first glance, this looks like just an average replica of a house. But actually, the house itself is a metaphor for Montag. There are small things that occurred on the outside of Montag, and there are things that caused huge reactions on the inside of Montag. We will begin with the outside. Clarisse Mclellan told Montag all about porches and how people used to be able to just sit in a chair on their porch, and think. This idea of having the ability to think was a pretty big element in Montag's change. What Montag feared about this ability was that "that was the wrong kind of social life"(Bradbury, Ray 93). Society had him believing, just like all the others, that thinking and communicating was bad. That it was wrong to be a thinker, but what Clarisse told him about porched made him realize just how great it would be to be alone with your thoughts. That's exactly where the chair comes in, because it is on the porch. The chair in the art piece would allow somebody to just sit and think on a porch. Alone, with nature, and their thoughts. Just like Montag and Granger's group is at the end of the book. Another thing located on the porch is dandelions. Due to Clarisse, dandelions are a symbol of love, and the truth about it. Dandelions mean a lot to Montag, because they are what made him realize that his relationship with his wife was a lie. And that sped up his curiosity about how much
