The Best Gift Of My Life Analysis

There is something about leaving home that is exciting. Whether it is going to a friend’s house for the night, or going on spring break to Florida for a week. But, the feeling of being home is like no other. When I was 10 years old, I went to Michigan for 10 days with my sister. I remember how fun the trip was, being able to stay with all my friends, and not having to do jobs for my mom, and all the fun stuff. But, I also remember the last day of my vacation. All I wanted to do was go home, but my sister got sick and we had to stay an extra night. I wanted to see my mom, I was sick of having fun, and I just wanted to be in my own bed. Home is a significant part of my life. It is filled with comfort and love, home is a safe and clean environment, …show more content…
Love is what makes a person feel comfortable in a space. I feel comfortable when at home. I am able to express my opinion about anything and not be judged. Home is where I can walk around in my mismatched clothes, wearing them inside out and backwards, without doing my hair and still get treated the same. In the story “The Best Gift of My Life” Cynthia Rylant dreams of a nicer home, but her being around her home is where she is most comfortable. Rylant expresses, “As long as I stayed in Beaver, I felt I was somebody important. I felt pretty and fun.” In a way, I feel similar to Rylant. Home is where I am most comfortable, but when I am away from home, I still feel like somebody, unlike Rylant. Without comfort in a home I think that people would not enjoy being home, thus making it easier for them to …show more content…
I know it is what everyone says and it may sound very cliché, but it true. Without my family my life would be much different. I cannot imagine being far away from them. They support me, care for me, and always look up for my best interest. When I come home from a trip, I do not look forward to seeing my bed, the kitchen, or my sauna, I look forward to seeing my family. Personally, I do not care what my house looks like. Without them inside, it would just be a house, not my home. In the story “Home” by Gwendolyn Brooks, their house is not perfect, but they believe it is because that is where the characters are together as a family: “‘It 's just going to kill Papa’ burst out Maud Martha, ‘He loves this house! He lives for this house!’ ‘He lives for us’ said Helen. ‘It’s us he loves. He wouldn 't want the house, except for us’.” Helen expresses that family is most important in their situation. She is saying that the family is what makes their house important. It does not matter what type of house a person lives in, where it is, or what is inside of it. What really matters is who is inside of

To live in a brand new place and feel at home is difficult, but to do it alone is much more difficult. I wander the streets constantly trying to find something or someone that can ground me to this place that I am now living in. Walking around these cobble stone streets. I constantly look around for something that reminds me of home. I try to align something from Florence like the bittersweet smell of coffee, the egg glazed pastries and the warm smell of fresh bread to my place at home.…

More times than not it is hard to react in the proper way when someone else is dealing with a death. The book “Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs and Communication of the Dying” by Maggie Callan and Patricia Kelley is all about Hospice care nurses. They tell many stories about their dying patients and their families reactions to the death process. Wallpaper With a Thousand Words “The Yellow Wallpaper” is an important story, but digging has to be done to see so. The author Charlotte Perkins displays a feminist interpretation in an impressive way. Her use of metaphors brings out the true meaning behind this story. The wallpaper represents the way women are treated in our society, and the author tells a story of a “madwoman” to represent this overall theme. The house is the whole backbone to the story and is a one of the metaphors used.…

When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…
