The home visit was attended by Debbie and Christian Nunes. Shanon Nunes was not present.

Interview with Debbie

Debbie mentioned that the Christian is progressing well in school, but he faced certain barriers in interacting with other friends/classmates. Nevertheless, she observed the child does not run away unlike before. Debbie showed me a calendar in which they track Christian’s progress in school where she puts stickers if he did well or note any challenges he faced. She said that academically the child is very good in school. However, she mentioned on certain days, he got upset as he was isolated from the rest of the classmates. She also mentioned that since the incident where the police has been involved, he had somehow controlled himself.

She said there was a time where there where lots of problems between them. The child often heard them screaming and saying swear words when the child is present. Also, his playmates often were the two boys next door who often use swear words. As a result, the grandmother stated whenever Christian was deprived of something, frustrated, or felt anything negative, Christian would often display aggressive behaviors. Sometimes, he slapped the arms of his grandmother or use swear words. Debbie stated that she would talk to the child saying that that is not right. Debbie also mentioned that Christian has a high regard with his grandfather that he follows him whatever was asked of him without being frustrated or aggressive. He said he is very close to his grandfather who taught him a lot of things like skating and rock climbing. Unfortunately, he cannot be present an interview as he works at night. However, the worker suggested that the grandfather be updated of the participation of the Society, and if he has anything to say, they could relay it to Andy.

Imposed as a sentence by the Criminal Court judge, in a number of different ways and under different circumstances, probation is the most commonly used strategy for this type of supervision (Griffiths & Murdock, 2014, p. 92). This interview took place in Dean Vargas’ office. As a first year advisor in the school of engineering, she has been busy in the past month assisting first year students in picking which type of engineering they are most interested in and helping them to plan their schedules for the upcoming year. This meant that she did not have the time to meet somewhere else. If this were not a factor, I would have suggested meeting in a cafe as that would have caused Dean Vargas to view me less as one of her many students and more as an individual woman, coming to her for assistance in navigating the unique set of circumstance women engineers need to navigate. I believe that as a result of holding the meeting in her office and not in a secondary location,…
