Home Daycare Trip

I had a lot of fun planning and setting up my center at the CDC. It was cool to use some of my plants for learning purposes. It was not that hard to put together and I am happy with the results. It took me some time to find the book I read for my activity. There were a couple different options at the library but in the end, I felt the story about the seed was best for what we were talking about. My only regret is not being able to see the kids interact with my center more. I wanted to swing back by later to watch but it was a busy week for me at the paper and so I wasn’t able to. But when I picked up my stuff I got a note saying the kids really enjoyed everything I set up, so I say it was a success. Our home daycare trip was fun. It’s

The most impactful books are those that bring world inside of them to life in vivid detail. In Hope Jahren’s “Lab Girl,” the world brought to life is our own. However, rather than conveying a human-centric story, Jahren focuses on an often-forgotten character: plants. Jahren is a geochemist and geobiologist, and “Lab Girl” is a cross between a memoir and a textbook explaining the intricacies of plant life. The most memorable excerpts are those where plants are personified, from the stories ingrained in wood to the miracles of the resurrection plant.…

The eighty seven page novel, Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, contains various lessons readers can learn throughout the story. However, the central message in Seedfolks is that an individual's actions can change his or her community. First of all, the vacant lot on Gibb Street, is rat-infested and filled with garbage, the lot looked nothing at all like a place for a garden. Until one day, nine year old Kim clears a small space in the lot and digs the hard-packed soil to plant her precious lima beans so that she could connect with her father who she never had a chance to meet due to him passing away before Kim’s birth.…

The first observation I did was at the Esmelda daycare, this daycare is a family daycare there the woman and husband showed me what they did every day they said that the toddler had hours for everything like what time they eat, how much time they had to play. Esmelda daycare promote language through play time she has book that help the toddlers learn the different animal or the ABC the woman would read the book to toddler by pointing to animal or letter and saying what it was she would also promote language by playing with the toys like counting how many Lego blocks there is or by saying the color of the toy right now. Esmelda daycare is not fully completed with all the material the toddlers need they are in process, but still not being a fully completed daycare you can see that the women and the husband take really good care of children when I was there as she was taking to me if the children need something she would stop and put attention to what the children need instead of just keep taking to me and ignored the child. Compare to the second observation did where each children age group has his own in Esmelda daycare see has all the children together he also has the toy room apart where they just go play when is play time and can’t go in until is play time again.…

The few things that I disliked was that each student was put into a group and put into an area in the home, I didn’t like the fact that we stayed in the same area for the whole week we have been there for, with the same people all the time. I advise next time to swap to different areas of the house to further experience all aspects and…

Observation: The YMCA daycare program is very different from Hope. I went back and forth between the two classrooms with children from ages 2 to 4 and I even spent a bit of time in the infant room. I learned more about the different temperaments of the children and how to address them. In addition, I also saw how children three to four years of age did not know how to say what they wanted so they would hit and throw things. I would have to say the biggest thing that I learned today was figuring how to get a positive behavior and not to reinforce a negative behavior.…

During this lab we used an abundance of previously learned knowledge to complete this lab. Key concepts and ideas are: What is cellular respiration and photosynthesis are, how germination works, and the candle in water experiment. First, cellular respiration is the process in which food is broken down for energy or as building blocks. Photolysis is the exact opposite of cellular respiration, because it turns the building blocks into glucose and oxygen. Germination is the process where the seed use water is taken up by the dry seed and actives enzymes inside of the seed which starts the growth.…

The Second World War started a new beginning for childcare in Canada. What is known today as the Day Nursery Act wasn’t without trial and tribulation, nor was it first known as the Day Nursery Act. The Dominion-Provincial War Time Agreement was the first agreement that was made available in 50% cost sharing to the provinces to support child care programs for children whose mothers were working in essential wartime industries (Child Care Canada, 2011). Only two provinces saw the advantage of this program, Ontario and Quebec with most childcare centres being found in Toronto, Ontario.…

Many parents struggle with the decision on what kind of childcare is best for their child, a day care center or in-home day care. There are many reasons why parents struggle with this decision. Both provide care for a child while parents are away, and both will have an extra expense that will have to come out of the family budget. Even though, day care center and in-home day care have some similarities these two types of childcare could not be more different from each other like: expense, trust, and exposure. Both day care center and in-home day care has an extra expense.…

The two article I chose to review from Science and Children are “Take a Leaf from Our Book” by Betty Fowler and “The Poetry of Plant” by Emily Morgan and Karen Ansberry. Both articles demonstrated how to incorporate literature, poetry, and science in order to teach students about plants through hands-on activities. A piece of literature can be significant tool for teaching and learning about science. However, it takes more than just reading about a topic to be considered “doing science”.…
