Research is the methodical process of collecting and analysing information to improve our knowledge of understanding of a specific study. There are eight main functions of research, these include; to highlight gaps in provision, inform policy or practice, extend knowledge and understanding, improve practice, allows progress to be monitored, plan provision, examine topics and aid reflection. Research is a careful and detailed study into a specific problem, concern, or issue and allows researchers to maintain an understanding and prove a specific point.
