Holy Cross Section 9 Analysis

In Constitution 2, paragraph 12 relates to the Galilean Principle because men and women of Holy Cross are called here to have a "servant's heart" and be willing to go into the margins of society and empathize with them through their suffering, but also to bring hope "of the coming kingdom" by being a witness of Christ's love and openness in hospitality (Elizondo 273, 277). "Wherever" indicates that those associated with Holy Cross are called to represent the "crossroads" of humanity and follow in the footsteps of Christ who came from the margins to destroy the social borders and demonstrates what it means to be a universal church (Elizondo 273 & 274). The statement, "whose lot we share," represents the calling of the men and women of Holy Cross …show more content…
In sections 112-117, we are called to be martyrs, in the truest form, by surrendering our life to God "with Him and for Him" (Constitution 8, Section 112). To surrender our life to God, we must suffer the same suffering Christ endured and imitate the joy he gave us by viewing the cross as "our only hope" (Constitution 8, Section 113-114, 117). The transition from death to resurrection can signify Christ's victory over death by the cross and that is why the cross is "our only hope" (Constitution 8, Section 113, 118). At Our Lady of the Road, the people we serve endure human suffering as God incarnate did; moreover, we, as disciples of Christ, are called to welcome them into discipleship by allowing them to take up their daily cross and give it to God instead of trying to conquer it themselves because He already has conquered sin (Constitution 8, Section 118). As servant's, we must exude the joy of the Gospel and express to those we serve that the Lord is merciful and giving; furthermore, those that accept his mercy will undergo resurrection daily as I have witnessed at Our Lady of the Road (Constitution 8, Sections 118-119). I am able to witness the struggles they face and the crosses they carry, and I help them surrender themselves to God and take up their cross. The moment they take up their cross, they obtain mercy and joy

Wednesday, pgs 105-110: The question was answered to who crucified Jesus and why, but there is one more question that is more spiritual… What was the meaning to all of it? Death is the end of this life on earth, but it is also the beginning of a new life. In the Dream of the Rood, the speaker receives a dream of the crucifixion story as told from the perspective of the wooden cross on which Jesus died. The speaker tells the reason of Jesus suffering death on the cross as, “But they (multitude) shall fear and few shall think what to contrive to say to Christ. But no one there need be afraid who bears the best sign on his breast. And on this earth each soul that longs to exist with its savior forever” (35).…

What this means is that the author Brennan Manning wants us as readers to live our lives like Jesus; committed to simplicity, purity of heart, and obedience to the gospel. From reading and studying the first pages of The Signature of Jesus, I learned the very purpose in which why Brennan Manning wrote the book. The theme of love lies at the heart of the Fourth Gospel, pervading every aspect of the book. The Synoptic Gospels focus on the theme as well, but in John’s Gospel Jesus directs his disciples to love God and their neighbor, based on Deuteronomy 6:4–5 and Leviticus 19:18. In John’s Gospel, Jesus’s only command for his disciples is to love one another (15:12), and he assures the reader that God loves those who keep his commandments (14:21, 23). John points to Jesus’s death as an example of the type of love that Jesus expects his disciples to have (cf. 3:16; 15:13). Love in the Gospel of John argues that to understand John’s concept of love requires understanding more than what Jesus taught in the Gospel.…

Sanctification: Finally, after working through the meat of the ordis salutis, I arrive at the heart of soteriology: sanctification, a union with Christ, and a covenantal partnership with God to be kingdom-bringers. Although sin nature still affects us as Calvin notes, the election and mercy of God, the imputation of Christ, and the impartation by the Holy Spirit lead me to a point in which I no longer am defined by my sin nature. Literally, my sin nature died when Christ died. When Jesus died as our Christus Victor, he defeated death.…

During Jesus’ time on this earth, He used the claim “I AM” to describe himself throughout all His teachings. The Gospel of John shows at least eight different times Jesus says this. Seven of these claims were accompanied by signs to back up His words.…
