Holy Cross Research Paper

Life changes in the blink of an eye. If someone told me ten years ago that I would not be going to Holy Cross Church for Mass every Sunday, I would have scoffed at them and thought they were insane. However, little did I know, that their prediction would become my reality. As a little girl, Holy Cross seemed like a castle fit for a princess. On the outside, two beautiful stone statues stood depicting Mary and Pope John Paul II on either side of the church. In the spring, we would crown Mary with an intricate and flourishing flower crown. During Christmas, a nativity scene was in front of the statue of Mary, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. In addition, a tall flagpole waved the American and Polish flag, representing pride in our freedom …show more content…
However, time and circumstances cause things to change. Due to a tight budget, the church is sadly falling apart; there’s no money to pay for air conditioning, electricity, and maintenance of the church. Furthermore, due to the dangerous nature of the neighborhood, many families don’t feel comfortable bringing their kids into the city. In addition, our beloved priest was assigned to a different parish community. This news devastated the parishioners and caused the whole atmosphere of the church to change. Holy Cross went through a transition between multiple priests, none of whom could keep its spirit alive. Now, holiday traditions are never the same and it’s heartbreaking to see the elderly members of the community trying to preserve the legacy, but no one cares anymore. A drastic amount of people have switched churches, and I’m ashamed to admit that my family was one of them. However, whenever we do visit Holy Cross, I know we made the right decision because the church does not have a healthy community anymore like it used to. My mom likes to say everything went downhill once our admired priest left, and I agree with

and I often would think that God was mad at me because I was falling asleep in church. Another memory that comes to mind is whenever the members of my grandmother’s church did not understand something it would often be deemed as the devil. For example when I was reading the story of what happened to Galileo, could see the members at my grandmother’s church condemning him, because they did not understand the theories that he discovered. My mother told me when she became pregnant with me at age 18; the leaders at church asked her to sit the back of the church because of her sin. Growing as a child I thought we say in the back because the was my mother favorite sit in church.…

In moving forward with Margaret, or others, and addressing the concerns, below is how I would begin to share both “pastorally sensitive and “theologically reflective” information that might allow for an exercise in faith seeking understanding. I have sensed similar struggles with many in my congregation and I have prayed, if I can be an instrument to help these faithful hearts find calm, may it be so. This assignment, I pray, might provide me with the confidence and courage to embrace this challenge more fully and help when “faithful” differs from “truthful. In Mark Sherer’s book, The Journey of a People, he shares six realities in understanding…

Jesus was and is still a religious leader, he plays an important role in the christian religion and based of the religion he was the one that paid the debt for all of our sins. The bible isn't a bibliography but more a book of principles told by stories and speeches given by Jesus and his disciples. Jesus was born circa 6 B.C. His mother the virgin Mary was betrothed to Joseph the carpenter, they were no King and Queen, they were peasants with not much money.…

My relationship with Jesus Christ has been life-changing, challenging, and good. Being a Christian is more than "religion", it is knowing Christ, and being his Ambassador on earth. As much as we are all physical beings, we are also spiritual beings. This is why most people in the world believe in some religion or "god". We all have a spiritual need within us.…

The doctrinal dimension – simply as the beliefs and teachings of the religion. “…take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.” [Al-Qur’an 6:151] Jihad, in popular western media this word translates to Holy war. However as stated above Islamic teaching regard life as sacred, if we translate the words "holy war" back into Arabic, we find ‘Harbun Muqaddasatu’. Unfortunately, Muslim writers and translators of the Qur’an, the Hadith and other Islamic literature translate the term ‘jihad’ as ‘holy war’.…

In orthodox Christianity, we worship God as a Triune Being (Trinity). He is One God in three Persons. Satan from the very beginning in Genesis has been tempting and deceiving man into thinking that there is a better way. This comes in many different forms but the goal is always the same: a rejection of God and His sovereignty over His creation. As we have the genuine, we also have the counterfeit.…

There are many types of religions in the world, all in which different cultures believe in. It is one thing to be raised and taught to believe in a “God” but it is an other thing when that “God” is proven real. Many people believe in a “higher power” but do not want to classify that “higher power” so that it does not change their lifestyle or their behaviour. Humans like to be comfortable in their own skin, with their own beliefs, therefore, they will try and convince themselves in what they believe is real for their own comfort. In that case, couldn 't that be very scary if they are wrong?…

In 2014, I was head over heels for the Catholic Church. A young adult going to mass every Sunday morning and then again Sunday night for “Teen” mass wasn’t abnormal in the city of Corpus Christi. I mean, the name of the city translates into “Body of Christ.” (Spoiler: “Teen” mass wasn’t as ‘Hip’ or ‘poppin’ as you might think it would be. The only difference was instead of a children’s choir it was a ragtag band playing slow Jesus songs.)…
