The increasing advancements in technology have changed the way we communicate with each other. Nowadays, many people use Facetime to connect with their families and friends. People from all over the world can stay connected with just the touch of a button. Now, imagine being able to virtually transport from one place to another to communicate with your loved ones. Imagine being able to interact with them, without having to physically be at the same location. This new technological innovation is called holoportation, which is a series of cameras installed in a room that captures and tracks a person’s movement in 3D. There are, as it were, winners and losers,” when it comes to new technologies being introduced into our society (Postman, 9). Because Holoportation is convenient and saves us money from traveling cost, many people will contentedly embrace this technology. We also think of ourselves as “winners” (Postman, 9). In reality, the use of Holoportation draws us away from the real-world setting, generate a sense of social isolation, and can threaten our personal relationships. Furthermore, the creators of holoportation, Microsoft, will benefit most from the rise of Holoportation popularity. Because every user needs a set of cameras and the HoloLens to actually communicate with each other, Microsoft is the real “winner” (Postman, 9). According to research, the price of the whole system is around $1,000 (Huynh et al. 7). While $1,000 seems affordable compared to an enthusiast Apple laptop, you can use that money for more essential things. With $1,000, you can put food on your family’s plates, pay bills, and even donate the money to charity. This new communication technology is something people want not need. We can live without
