Holmes's Bank On It

Improved Essays
Bank On It Holmes uses the analogy of a bank account to restate the basics of affirmative prayer:
1) Go to the bank. - The objective is to recognize that Life, the invisible and intangible, is the source and substance of all that we require and desire for our life. How are we to align ourselves with the infinite source of all? Return to It by turning within for inspiration. Listen and pray, and listen. Meditate on the nature of Reality and contemplate the reality of Nature. Think clearly, reasonably, and affirmatively. Remember the wisdom of the ages, and with all thy getting, get wisdom and understanding. [see Proverbs 3 & 4]
2) Prove your identity. - Affirm and confirm that you are a child of our Father, heir to the kingdom, etc.

Week Three Devotional God is in the people business and the command is simple; go, baptize, and teach. Why? Because Jesus, being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God, said so. The slave is not greater than the Master and as His bond servants, our obedience is not optional but is a requirement. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom 10:17 KJV). Harvard Business School’s professor Dr. Clayton M. Christensen was asked by the graduating class to give some advice on how to apply his principles and thinking to their personal lives, not their career. Dr. Christensen shared his experience with the students regarding how he could find meaning in his own life by telling them some real-life examples with various theories and models. Dr. Christensen would not tell them what to think, but how to think. This would let people answer their questions insightfully. Later he asked his students to use those models and theories on themselves and answer three questions: How can they be sure that they will be happy in their career, how they can be sure that their relationships with spouse and family will become an enduring source of happiness, and how to live a life of integrity?…

People are always rushing through life looking for a better tomorrow; they completely overlook the road that lies behind them and keep marching forward. Willa Cather once said, “The end is nothing; the road is all.” The writer conveys her opinion on the importance of the journey not the end result. One will find more meaning during the ride than at their final destination. The road is filled with life lessons, memories, and choices.…

J is for the jitters. We’re all nervous about making a difference as we go out into the world and being something bigger than ourselves. For that though, I think Jim Carrey said it best when he said “like many of you, I was concerned with going out into the world and doing something bigger than myself, until someone smarter than myself made me realize that there is nothing bigger than myself. My soul is not contained within the limits of my body; my body is contained within the limitless of my soul”. K is for acts of kindness.…

The fundamental question every human asks is “What is the meaning of life?” Fittingly, every philosopher, thinker, and literary wonder has attempted to synthesize an answer. Cliché responses talk about finding love, finding God, or finding happiness. Rarely though, does one hear or read a commentary on life that causes one to ponder. However, two such commentaries do come to mind, Samuel Johnson’s History of Rasselas and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Self-Reliance.…

John 6:1-14 serves as a “reminiscent of the miraculous feeding through Moses” during the wandering in the wilderness “following their exodus from Egypt and preceding their entrance into the promised land” (Exodus 16:4-36), events commemorated by the Passover feast (Heil, 53). In John 6:1-14, Jesus feeds a crowd of about five thousand (6:10) with the overabundance of bread and fish (6:5-13) when the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near (6:4). All the events of John 6 are placed in a Passover context (6:4). The fact that a large crowd of people was following Jesus and seeing the signs He was performing on the sick (6:2) tells readers of the further signs: the theme of believing in Jesus as the sacrificial Passover lamb of God central to…
