Hollywood Voodoo Research Paper

Decent Essays
Although the Hollywood view point of voodoo is bad it is making people a lot of people rich. Many people open shops claiming that they are selling authentic voodoo dolls and other useless fake things. They went with the Hollywood belief of voodoo and are now making money from those who do not know the truth of its origins. Although it is interesting, it is wrong and should not be done. We need to stop slandering and fearing the unknown if we do not know the truth. There are many other things to fear at this point as a human race other than people worshiping their own gods. The fact that we have not explored our own planet should have us in fear, or the fact that it may very well be another Earth out there in the galaxy that we have not explored

Voodoo is a system of spirit worship brought to Haiti by slaves from Africa. In 1791, leaders of a slave revolt against France held a secret voodoo meeting in a mountain above Cap Haitian at which they dedicated their country to evil spirits. After their victory over Napoleon’s armies in 1804, they attributed their success to voodoo. As recently as 2004, then President Aristide, a former Roman Catholic priest, renewed this vow. People who practice voodoo believe that everything, good or bad, happens at the whim of spirits.…

He also explained that Voodoo was spread to New Orleans after the Haitian Slave Revolt when there was a significant increase of Haitian people immigrating to the states. After he described its history, Nickell wrote extensively about one of the most influential people in Voodoo history: Marie Laveau.…

When playing Witch Mafia on Friday, the objective of the game is to kill the Black Man, but instead we ended up killing nearly all of our townspeople. Like the Puritans, we came up with faulty and stretched reasons for why one of the townspeople was guilty, simply because we needed to kill someone, yet did not have any real evidence for doing so. Some of the people in the class did not feel one way or another about a person, and their votes were cast as swing votes. The swing votes were mostly determined by who had the most elaborate and elongated analogy. Sometimes the analogies made sense, but when the person was expressing their idea in a very intense way, it was easy for others to succumb to that idea instead of going with their better…

Voodoo focuses on appeasing minor gods, as their main one does not influence the world. While Christianity sees one god that influences everything in life. Christians would see Voodoo rituals and practices as worshiping Satan, as the two cultures are very different in that respect. Voodooists on the other hand, might say Christians were wasting their time on a god that would not respond, and possibly angering the minor ones actually in control. This allows both groups to become closer internally, but could cause conflict between them.…

The Haitian belief in zombies stems from a religion called Voodoo. Voodoo is a type of sorcery revolving around spell casting, dolls, and other things considered to be evil. Haitians consider zombies to be dead slaves who are now soulless because they attempted to die and returned to the plantations to work for eternity. Slave owners would tell there slaves this story to keep them from committing suicide, because they would of course lose their workers. The reason I say that they told this “story” was because of course it was not even close to being true.…

During the 1940s and 1950s the threat of communism within the Hollywood film and entertainment industry was greatly overstated. During the time that the House Un-American Activities Committee was active the U.S population was in the midst of a intense anti-communism movement in response to the Cold War. The HUAC with the support of public opinion was able to question almost any individual without negative backlash. This wild questioning of anyone when linked with the close connections between Federal Beau of Investigation and HUAC created what is historically viewed as a ‘witch hunt’ against communists. However, despite the fact that this threat of communist subversion was much overstated there is still some evidence of underhand activities,…

My absolute favorite movies are The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I know that these are two vastly different movies but what they have in common is that they are both comedies and musicals. I love musical comedies, mainly because I grew up in the era of High School Musical but also because I love music. Music is one of my passions (even though I can not sing or play an instrument for my life) because it is so expressive.…

But I think it's great because if you don't hold it against that show, that show may be calling you some time down the road to audition for something different. If you're holding it against them, then you might miss out on booking that role later on down the road. Exactly.…
