Hollywood Greenlight Sequels

It’s common practice for movie studios to greenlight sequels, even sequels to movies that few people particularly ask for. Typically, though, you only find Moretz in anything that’s not comedy related, ranging from the horror remake, Carrie, to the teen drama, If I Stay. And, while she might necessarily seem like a natural fit for an immature comedy like Neighbors 2, it’s not to see her in a change-of-pace role.

To that point, Neighbors 2 is about as funny as its predecessor, although nowhere near as vulgar and gutter-happy as a film like Efron’s previous flick, Dirty Grandpa. Neighbors keeps it somewhat tame, relying on smart quips and well-timed barbs - meshed with air bag gags and bedbug infestations.

On the storyline front, Neighbors 2 clearly didn’t need to be made - even though you could easily say that about several films. Regardless, this comedy sequel was not put into production for its creativity, but rather its effectiveness at drawing moviegoers into the theater. But, if there’s one major complaint about this sequel - it’s the fact that it breaks absolutely zero new ground. Yes, one could even say that this is the exact same thing as the first film.

Films that are adaptations of novels at times leave out important things that made the novel so special, and in return the film ends up as a poor portrayal of the story. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Scott Fitzgerald devotes a considerable amount of attention to build up the relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan baker, as well as providing Nick Carraway the ability to have more freedom in the way he expresses his thoughts and feelings. These concepts shift in the scene from the film directed by Baz Luhrmann, as it does not portray the intimate relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker. The main focus of the film is Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, and because of that, it does not allow for another romance in the story. The film 's restraint of time also damages its ability to express the thoughts and feelings of the characters, specifically Nick Carraway.…
