In November, Joran van der Sloot, Statish and Deepak Kalpoe were arrested. They were arrested based on suspicion of involvement in manslaughter and causing bodily harm in result to the death of Holloway. This did not result to anything. The Kalpoe brothers were released a few days later. Sloot was released December 7, 2007 due to the lack of evidence. (Wikipedia, n.d.) Her parents didn’t give up on the search for their daughter. In November of 2007 the Holloways extended their search 330-foot. (Wikipedia, n.d.) They used a vessel called the Presistence, which was later abandoned due to monetary hardship. Sloot made a confession in regards to Holloway. In defense he stated he only said what the person wanted to hear. There was a broadcast that took place on February 3, 2008 when a man by the name of Patrick van der Eem, gained Sloot’s trust. The day that he was with Holloway she began convulsively shaking, then became unresponsive. Van der Sloot stated that he attempted to revive her, without success. He then called a friend, who told Van der Sloot to go home and who disposed of the body. An individual reputed to be this friend, identified in the broadcast as Daury, has denied Van der Sloot's account, indicating that he was then in Rotterdam at school. (Wikipedia, n.d.) He denied ever saying this and does state that he was under the influence of marijuana.
