American Holistic Nurses’ Association defines of holistic nursing as “all nursing practice that has ‘healing the whole person’ as its goal” (AHNA, 1998). Holistic nursing can be practice in any setting. Thornton also stated that the first step in bringing back the “care” and “healing” into our health care system is for nurses to learn to love and care for themselves (Thornton, L. Holistic Nursing: A way of being, a way of living, a way of practice, 2008). I believe that if nurses know who they are, how they feel inside and their attitude have a significant effect on the patient. As Jean Watson says, “We must learn to treat ourselves with love and respect before we are able to treat others that way” (Watson, 1998). We have to admit that our job can be stressful and we are only humans. We get tired and frustrated. If we don’t care for ourselves, who is going to take care of our sick and dying
