Yom Kippur is “a Jewish high holy day observed on the 10th day of the month of Tishri by abstinence from food and drink and by the day long recitation of prayers of repentance in the synagogue.” Yom Kippur is viewed as one of the most important Jewish holidays. For centuries, people of Jewish religion celebrate Yom Kippur on Tishri; the seventh month on the Jewish religious calendar. Yom Kippur is known as “A Day of Atonement” and originates from the book of “Leviticus 23:27” which states that “expiation” is made on your behalf before the Lord your God. The day of Yom Kippur is carried out in total Sabbath, the “seventh day of the week” on which people of Jewish faith are placed under strict prohibitions against eating, drinking, bathing, wearing leather shoes, and sexual cohabitation.…

The Wiccan calendar and holidays are a little different from our own. Azilyn explained that her New Year starts at Shaman (that is October 31st) and runs through October 30th of the next calendar year. Wiccans also celebrate their greater and lesser sun holidays (more accurately Sabbats) according to an eight-spoked wheel, which corresponds with cycles of nature and symbolizes the belief in the birth, death, and rebirth cycle. Azilyn told me a beautiful story that incorporates some of the Greek pantheon (that of Demeter and Persephone) that goes with the Wheel of the Year she chose to believe in; however, she explained, there are many alternative legends Wiccans use as their explanation of why the seasons change. I would love to clarify this lore, but honestly, there is not enough room in this paper to give all the nessecerry details.…

The Jewish people have time and time again overcome the sufferings. They celebrate the overcoming of the first of these hardships with Passover. Passover commemorates a remarkable historical time for the Jewish people. The Hebrew people were slaves in Egypt and God sent Moses to deliver them from the bondage.
