The order in which events transpire in a story is important to analyze in order to truthfully understand the story. While Brandon was telling me his story, he started off by mentioning he has a big family. In his very next sentence he stated that his mom and dad are divorced. I believe he started his story this way in order to let the audience know that he does not come from a traditional family. He then went on to mention what he did during Thanksgiving break with each side of his family. He stated that he and his mom go to O’charley’s to eat and that his dad’s side had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner that he enjoyed more. I think the reason this portion of his story was at the end of his story was because although his family is not average, he still managed to enjoy holiday breaks and wants to keep an optimistic mindset about his situation.
Another way I want to analyze Brandon’s story is by determining how he portrays his character in the story. Brandon told his story by telling me all of the events that take place, how they occurred, and what happens to him during holiday breaks. Instead of sharing a story about what a family member did or a funny story, he just shared what he does during Thanksgiving and other holiday events. I think this is interesting because it portrays him as the main character and the most important figure which as a result could act as a way to understand his
