“There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once was a very large lake, the largest lake in Texas. That was over 100 years ago. Now it’s just a dry flat wasteland.” (Sachar 3) But Stanley didn’t know that. Little did Stanley this camp would change his life forever. In the novel “Holes” destiny forces Stanley to encounter situations, and he chooses which path to follow. Stanley changes from weak and shy to happy and self reliant because of how Sachar describes him showing weakness, riskiness, and happiness.
Stanley, a main character in the book “Holes” displays weakness in the beginning of the novel. Stanley never participates manual labor before. “Stanley would’ve laughed, but he didn’t have the strength.” (Sachar 37) This quote demonstrates
