A Comparison of the Book and Movie - Holes

Reading and watching Holes is a different experience. The book Holes was written in a 1998. It is a young adult mystery comedy novel written by Louis Sachar. First published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. It won the 1998 U.S. National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the 1999 Newbery Medal for the year's. The movie version came out on April 18, 2003. Then director was Andrew Davis. It took place in US and it is a Disney movie. The book and the movie are different in three main ways, first, the way the main character, Stanley, was or was not teased in school and Camp Green Lake, second, the amount of violence in each version and finally, the value of the treasure.

This was especially true when adults hit children. For example, when the Warden stabbed Armpit with a pitchfork and put three holes in his shirt with blood. Also, when Zigzag hit the side of Stanley’s face and Stanley collapsed. The movie never showed those two violent moments. This movie does not show adults hitting children because I think it’s a Disney movie. Most of the violence happened in chapter 17.

The value of the treasure in the book was not worth a lot but in the movie it was 5 times more valuable. Maybe this was because it is a Hollywood movie and if you go through something you have to get a big prize. You can not have a movie with such a small prize at the end, so the movie’s creators made the treasure much bigger

I give Holes the movie seven out of ten. It was a good movie because Mr. Sir was funny, he made our class laugh and I liked the part when they opened the treasure and got lots of money, it was a good climax to the movie. For the book, I give it a nine out of ten because it had lots of action when the warden stabbed Armpit and made him bleed. When the Warden hit Mr. Sir in his face and they found the treasure it did not cost as much in the book. I enjoyed reading the book and I liked the action which was fun to

Watching the short film and reading the story are completely different in their sequence of events, both have some similarities but mostly different. The story being the more confusing one because it starts explaining the ending to beginning as for the movie it shows you beginning to end which obviously makes it easier to understand the order. In both the story and the short film there are some similarities. Beginning with the short film, you see the end, Emily is dead at the morgue being drained, and the story goes on to how it all started, Emily and her father known as the Grierson family placed themselves too highly, and Emily’s father thought no young man is good enough for his daughter. Time and time again people come to the common question of, “Movies vs. books?” Many movies follow their books word for word whether its character development or plot development, whereas other movies change and twist the book’s stories in unimaginable ways, yet people are still faced with the question, “Movies or books?” An example of how books and movies can differ is in the story “The Outsiders” written by S. E. Hinton and produced by Francis Coppola. Although there are many similarities that both the book, The Outsiders, and the movie share, there were many noticeable differences in the appearance and personalities of all the characters. Three of the main characters, Pony, Johnny and Soda, will be reviewed in particular.…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…
