There are many types of conflicts present in Holes, four of which are: 1. Man vs Man, 2. Man vs Self, 3. Man vs Nature, 4. Man vs Society. These four examples of conflict help the characters and plot develop. Their resolutions help the reader to understand the book more better, and to imagine what it looks like.

The first conflict the reader sees in Holes is Man vs Man. This conflict is mainly between character vs character. For example, when Stanley says no to Zigzag and then Zigzag pushed Caveman it is significant because Caveman got punched in the face. This conflict is resolved when Zero choked Zigzag and Armpit pulled Zero off of Zigzag. The reader is able to see from this example that Caveman is struggling with fighting.
