Holes By Louis Sachar

Holes is a mystery-drama novel written by the great author Louis Sachar, which is enthralling with a thrilling end. I chose to read this book because I had to, but as the story unfolded I was hooked. The setting of the story of Holes is based in Camp Green Lake, which is a juvenile correction facility where the main character is sentenced to serve his punishment for the crime, he did not commit.
In this story, a boy called Stanley is unfairly accused. He is sent to a Camp Green Lake, a juvenile correction facility. Madam Zeroni had cursed Stanley’s great-great-grandfather because he had stolen one of her pigs. This book covers the months that Stanley was in Camp Green Lake. I think that what happened in the story was unusual although the main character not dying was ordinary. I think digging five feet deep and wide holes every day and surviving falling into yellow spotted lizard’s den was unusual. I think the opening of the story was a little slow, they told us about the creatures and how Stanley had to choose between jail or Camp Green Lake. The events of the story happen straight at the start, then the events happened three fourths of the way through and it was event and event until it ended. The story ended with a thrill as Stanley managed to solve all the problems

The third person made it easier to tell the story. The setting of the story was described with some detail; the landscape was easily inferable. The feelings and attitudes were generally on each page. The amazing feeling of the characters succeeding, emotions they felt, the hint of thrills made Holes a great story, that I would recommend everyone to read. When Stanley carried Hector up the mountain it was a feat of bravery, this made the story exciting. I think that Hector could be explained better as a character, rather than saying “Mr. Pendanski handed him the shovel. "Here, take it, Zero. It's all you'll ever be good for.

Love is Caustic: A Look into the Similarities and Differences of Laustic and Bisclavret Throughout Marie de France’s many lais, she focuses on the many facets of human nature, such as who can be trusted, who will act accordingly to their rank and status in the court, who will be honorable and treat others with respect, and most importantly, who is most deserving of the love of another. By the very definition of the lais, being a love ballad of sorts, this is nothing surprising. What is far more shocking about the works of Marie de France is that she holds nothing back when it comes to the repercussions that her characters experience for their actions. The idea that love can nurture and help one grow is noted by Marie, but the opposite being…

Past the Shallows Essay Past the Shallows, by Favel Parrett, is a touching story of two brothers in a small town by the ocean. The brothers, Miles and Harry, have grown up be the ocean but it plays a very different part in both of their lives. The boys are constantly at the mercy of their fathers mood which can change as quick as the ocean can. Even though Harry finds joy in small treasures and Miles finds joy in surfing there is always the underlying presence of poverty and desperation. Parrett emphasises this by writing from the perspective of Miles and Harry and shows the extent people will go under these circumstances.…

When choosing a film to write about, I selected the movie Holes since it was a movie very familiar to me and something I used to enjoy watching as a child. Holes, released in April 18, 2003, is a film written about a young boy, Stanley Yelnats IV, who was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, due to his bad luck and 100-year-old family curse. Having been falsely accused of stealing a famous baseball player’s cleats, Stanley was forced to go to court and instead of being sentenced to serve local time, he was sent to a juvenile correctional camp called camp green lake. This camp was designed for teenage boys who were forced to spend their days digging Holes out in the desert, in what the camp counselors and officials referred to as, “building character.”…
