In this story, a boy called Stanley is unfairly accused. He is sent to a Camp Green Lake, a juvenile correction facility. Madam Zeroni had cursed Stanley’s great-great-grandfather because he had stolen one of her pigs. This book covers the months that Stanley was in Camp Green Lake. I think that what happened in the story was unusual although the main character not dying was ordinary. I think digging five feet deep and wide holes every day and surviving falling into yellow spotted lizard’s den was unusual. I think the opening of the story was a little slow, they told us about the creatures and how Stanley had to choose between jail or Camp Green Lake. The events of the story happen straight at the start, then the events happened three fourths of the way through and it was event and event until it ended. The third person made it easier to tell the story. The setting of the story was described with some detail; the landscape was easily inferable. The feelings and attitudes were generally on each page. The amazing feeling of the characters succeeding, emotions they felt, the hint of thrills made Holes a great story, that I would recommend everyone to read. When Stanley carried Hector up the mountain it was a feat of bravery, this made the story exciting. I think that Hector could be explained better as a character, rather than saying “Mr. Pendanski handed him the shovel. "Here, take it, Zero. It's all you'll ever be good for.
