In the poem, Burns states, “Gin[C] a body meet a body, Comin thro' the rye, Gin a body kiss a body,Need a body cry?” This shows how in this poem, there is a woman who has been through some forms of abuse. She is trying to call out for help in order to escape from the abuser. This can relate to “The Catcher in the Rye” because Holden is also attempting to call out for help. Although both reasons are different, they still desperately need someone to be there in order to help each of them get through their situation. One of these reasons may be because of his disillusionment with society. In the story, Holden talked about how his brother was a nice and caring person. However, his death was inevitable and it could have made Holden think that no matter how hard you try in life, none of it is going to matter in the end. Allie was one of the few people who Holden actually liked. This shows how Allie’s death could have potentially changed the mindset of Holden. Also, another observation is that everyone who Holden gets close to, ends up leaving him somehow. This could also explain the reason why he doesn't want to get too close to people. In addition, this could show the reader how Holden tries to put up an act as a result. He pretends as if he doesn't care about anyone or anything, however he does care but he's trying to hide his emotions in order to avoid getting hurt once
