Essay My Worst Job

Improved Essays
With this story I could relate and I, for one, believe that everyone should hold a job in either retail or fast food at least once. It might be the worst experience of your life but you’ll learn a thing or two about the people who hold these jobs. They aren’t all druggies and drop outs and they aren’t robots either. I know that it can be awkward to talk to a complete stranger and heaven forbid be polite to them, but wouldn’t you want the same courtesy if you were the one flipping burgers at minimum wage. Of course these type of jobs do come with their batches of crazies, lazies, and plain weirdos, because it’s a job anyone can get. No experience required. My first real job was, surprise, at a fast food type restaurant called Burger Bob’s Drive-In. It’s a local place from my hometown owned by a friend of my family’s, so my boss had known me since I was four. Getting the job was only a matter of asking. Funny enough I didn’t ask until I was almost eighteen years old and I had been looking for a job for about six months. I was reluctant for so long because I …show more content…
The more they did the less hours they got. I’m actually glad I waited because not only was I in choir, which involved concerts and other performances/trips but I was also in theater. That would have severely limited my ability to work and one of my young coworkers was down to one day a week because of his sports and activities. Having a job period is a commitment and everyone should take that seriously. That type of job may look easy but the responsibilities behind the scene combined with coworkers who don’t want to work and any other thing that could go wrong in a day the pressure and physical/emotional drain is killer. The next time you step up to a fast food counter think about it. You aren’t the first customer and you won’t be the last so be polite and be patient because you don’t really know the person behind the name

My first job was one that I had foolishly not considered an 'actual job' until the first day of training, and then another, more prominent realization the first couple days as I started. I applied to work in a position called a Camphand at the summer camp I had been going to for a few years, Camp Chrysalis. Fresh out of my junior year of high school, this was an exciting new opportunity for my peers and I to start working at camp after being a camper in an age appropriate setting. In my head, things had reversed for the better in comparison to the past. Instead of having to pay to go to camp, I was now getting paid to be at camp!…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers and tons of grease.…

Long hours of constantly standing and running up and down the store addressing customers and trying to keep the store presentable is certainly not a job I would settle for. Retail is a job for students that come and go, that are trying to make extra money for themselves, but not for somebody who is already of age, has a family to maintain, and bills to pay. Many people settle for less and are so used to being in a certain place doing the same thing every day that they fear change and do not want to seek better opportunities. I have worked in retail for only two years, my first year at a store called Hollister. My experience there was that I only saw young teens working, most of them being so irresponsible.…

My previous work experience has exposed me to a variety of team dynamics and I would describe my exposure as very positive. My love for connecting with people has been a major factor in my overall employment success, such as, two management roles before reaching my twenty’s and also a fulfilling career in the financial industry for nine years. Working in a customer service role for the last 14 years I have faced struggles with communication, as well as developed positive skills to work effectively with others. One of the most essential elements I have learned from working as a Financial Advisor is how to build trust with people. I firmly believe this is key to any successful relationship, rather an employment relationship or otherwise.…
