When we moved to West Chester I and my dad wanted to join a program that was like the one in North Carolina. The only problem was is that the programs in West Chester weren't really that big at the time we moved up here so we were able to dive right back into the program. In my sophomore year of high school I got a job at ice line where I worked as skate rental and as a public skate rink grad. One day when I was working there I saw a table set up that says special needs hockey on its. I got pretty curious so I went up and I decided to ask the man standing there with the program was about and if I wanted to how I can get involved. He told me that all we needed to do was give him a little bit of information about ourselves and then we were in …show more content…
The kids that are in these programs are very special and are very sensitive to a lot of things, so if you going to the program upset at something else they could possibly think that it's them that you're upset with. That's why when you go into these programs you always have to be happy and have a smile on your face. For a lot of these kids this program gives them an outlet for them to bond with other kids and to meet people that will actually want to talk to them and hang out with them. I've heard a lot of stories from these kids like they've been bullied because they act a certain way or they've been called names because they act a certain way in school and they can help that but with you helping them learn a sport that could help them later life gives them a small mother face and they forget about everything that's wrong and this is the thing that they look forward to every weekend. What I find upsetting is that these programs in Pennsylvania are really prevalent or as big as the ones in North Carolina my hope is that I could possibly after college or sometime later my life one of program like the ones that I have joined and build them up to something big. These kids needed programs like these to help them with either family problems social problems this gives them a lot of happiness and a lot of hope and shows that people really love them. I will continue to serve the program that I'm currently in and hopefully the can build up to be a statewide program. These kids have taught me a lot but the biggest and that they taught me is to love everyone for who they are and not to judge people on their appearance on how they talk and all and how they act but the judges them on the person that they are and never listen to anybody else's opinion first but go

Since the program's inception in 1965, over 32 million children have been served. In my opinion, this program is invaluable to my community. Although there are many wealthy people living in the greater Boulder area of Colorado, there are even more families living below the poverty level. I have witnessed first hand how this program reaches out to these low-income families and provides valuable support and resources to them. Not only does this program specifically help the children, but it also provides significant support to the families (parents and siblings alike).…
