When it comes to one single object that I care about more than any other, it would have to be the chain necklace my father gave me before I left for school. At the time, I did not quite understand the depth of the meaning behind it, but there have been times that I rely on it to get me through my day. Two of the most important components in my life are family and hockey. This chain brings them both together and reminds me what I’m striving for. I was a naive fifteen year old that was leaving the family and life I was used to. I did not know what I was getting into and this chain gave me some sign, some direction, that I needed to keep my head on straight. It reminds me of the man that would give anything for his kids. It reminds of the man that gave me this opportunity. It reminds me of the man that opened the door to allow me to live my dream. My dream is to pursue hockey to the farthest point I can take it. My parents and sister mean the world to me and my dad captures their entity in this chain. I know it sounds like an exaggeration, but the chain means the world to me. My family is what pushes me. Christopher on it because he is the patron saint of hockey players. ‘Protect Me’ is spelled around its edges and it’s appropriate that my one true protector, my father, gave it to me. My first year at South Kent was a tough experience. I’m not one to go and tell someone there’s something wrong. There were times in the year that I felt lost and thought that going to boarding school was the biggest mistake I had ever made. My chain reminded me that I’m okay.
