In recent years, it seems like many people like to blame and attack affirmative action and want to do away with it or feel there is no need for it anymore, especially in high unemployment areas. One perspective of many Americans, including people in Louisiana, the traces of discrimination have almost disappeared, and affirmative action is unfairly proving an advantage to minorities. However, I was raised at the time when this was a strong belief and part of many Americans "deep stories." You worked for your American Dream and no one's behind it a "free ride." Sadly, many of my generations have raised their children to feel the same way. So, to them it truly the reality. but with that said I also think that's how people inherit bias and prejudices. They have raised environment and then it becomes part of their reality and emotional beliefs. Therefore, I think Louisiana's emotional beliefs comes from a "Deep Story." and have been told this for multiple generations, The American dream that we were all raised on is a simple but powerful one: If you work hard and play by the rules, you should be given a chance to go as far as you want and have the American Dream.
