A Rocket is a projectile that can operate on it's own without oxygen by the combustion of it's contents. Rockets are particularly interesting because it has transported mankind where they have never been before. That is why this project is on Rocketry, but with small scale rockets. The purpose of this project is to see if a homemade Chemistry Rocket, fuel made of baking soda and vinegar, can equal the endurance and/or the height of a Hobbytown Rocket. Though it is important to know the history of rockets and how they function, and the proper gear to wear even around small scale rockets in order to properly carry out this experiment. The first real rockets were invented by the Chinese …show more content…
The chemistry rocket is the main test in this experiment, but it will have variables within its experiment. Based on the definition of a controlled variable from the article “Variables in your Science fair Project”, it means, “Controlled variables are quantities that a scientist wants to remain constant, and he must observe them as carefully as the dependent variables” (Variables in your Science Fair Project article 9). This means that the Hobbytown rocket must be tested first in order to have clear data to go off of to compare the Chemistry rocket’s height and endurance. The Chemistry Rocket has an independent variable and dependent variable. An independent variable is the variable that is changed, so in this case the independent variables is the baking soda and vinegar. The amount of baking soda and vinegar in the chemistry rocket will increase in a series of trials to equal the height and the endurance of the Hobbytown rocket. The dependent variable of the chemistry rocket is the varying changes of the height and the endurance on the rocket in result of the changes in the amount of fuel used
