The underlying value behind Hobby Lobby suing is that they believe women having premarital sex is immoral. More than 30 years ago women fought and won the right to birth control. Fast forward to 2014 and the Supreme Court rules that Hobby Lobby, owned by evangelical Christian David Green and his family, doesn't have to pay for health care coverage of contraceptives prohibited by its owners' religion. Women are again fighting for their rights and are still having to justify that having sex is not immoral and doesn’t make us bad people. This decision pitts woman's private medical decisions against her boss' religious beliefs. With this Supreme Court decision, women lost. This decision is an insult to women and a real slap in the face made by five male supreme justices who will never know what it’s like to have to use an IUD or decide to take a morning after pill. A woman may be choosing to use an IUD not because she doesn’t want children, but because getting pregnant could kill her because she has pulmonary hypertension, or congenital heart disease, or maybe her previous birth control methods have failed. It might even be that she is choosing an IUD because she has a heavy menstrual period resulting in anemia. An IUD can help regulate a woman's period. Although a bit expensive, an IUD also is the most reliable contraceptive on the market. Or maybe the woman is choosing the morning after pill because her partner’s condom broke during sex and she can’t possibly afford to get pregnant right now. The method of contraception should be her choice, not her employers. Most women understand what is best for them. Some 99% of women will use some form of birth control at some point in their lives.
