The two philosophers Thomas Hobbes and John Locke are known as a result of their opinions about government as well as their different views of human nature. Locke believes that natural law tells an individual what they can or cannot achieve, trusting that people are good enough to govern themselves. Locke also describes the state of nature as perfect freedom following the law of nature. Having a larger negative view of human nature than Locke did, Hobbes thought that people should not have any freedom from the government. To avoid getting in trouble, people blame other people, a modern representation of this would be cyberbullying since people normally know that cyberbullying is not the best. Relating to this, Hobbes stated that “Those persons, that for the most part can give no other proof of being wise, take great delight to show what they think they have read in men.” (Hobbes, Sect. c). The reason everyone knows other people cyberbully is due to the fact that anyone can pull it off too. One way or another, everyone has bullied, like talking to friends about a person in the class that is disliked. People can send insulting messages or spread someone’s private messages to everyone they know. Unsuspecting people are generally the main target of cyberbullying. According to Clarissa Cole (2016), writer of Cyberbullying – Crossing the Line from Mean to Evil, Breaking the law and ruining lives, “It’s basic human nature to try to bolster ourselves up every now and then by comparing ourselves to others who may be having an unfortunate moment.” Hobbes said that people should be ruled by a government, without freedom.
