Dissension means the division and disagreement between two different people or groups on the other hand distress means either suffering or discomfort. However, nationalism does not just define who we are but also who we are not, who belongs to a nation and which individuals do not belong. As human beings, we have grown into being self determined individuals, every single one of us has a argument of this source. And yet, people are still being killed everyday because of nationalism. Hitler for example was not considerate of those who were not part of his nation, those who were not alike with him in every way. Hitler was trying to build the perfect race. Until now maybe you had no clue that nationalism played a role during the Holocaust, nationalism was the factor of which helped the Nazis decided whether or not you get to live or that you would be prosecuted. For example, Canada's immigration process leads to discrimination and exclusion, our Canadian government excludes anyone who we do not think is fit for Canada. It also leads to interethnic conflict, this means a conflict between two or more contending ethnic groups. While the source of the conflict may be political, social, economic or religious, the individuals in conflict must expressly fight for their ethnic group's position within society. On the contrary when us as people express nationalism to a broader, fuller extent nationalism may conclude to becoming meaningless. As a debater you may argue that nationalism leads to good in our world, that it can benefit the way of life of us as humans without necessarily doing harm to others. Rarely in a society is there going to be 100% agreement on whether or not to pursue in a act of nationalism , that is why when us as human beings embrace nationalism if affects the world as a whole. A death in a community affects the whole community therefore on a large scale when nationalism caused blood shed and a whole community dies if affects our whole world as a whole. Pursuing nationalism to the point where bloodshed takes place and causes war should not be acceptable and for that reason we shall not embrace nationalism
