History Of The Zodiac Killer

The Zodiac Killer is still one of the most well known serial killers of all time. Claiming to have killed 37 people. In the San Francisco area between the early 1960s and 1970s the Zodiac wrote letters and intricate ciphers to the police department in which the letters says he was the one who committed those crimes. The ciphers have been analysed and the police and other investigators who try to crack these codes but nobody has been able to decode these ciphers which could potentially say the true identity of this notorious killer. Little to no evidence the police have not been able to find the man known as the Zodiac killer where his true identity has never been revealed. One murder on September 27, 1969 a couple of college students by the name of Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia shepard were having a picnic in a small area of Lake Berryessa when this man in a hoodie with a circle with a cross inside of it on the middle of the hoodie came up to them with a knife and a .45mm handgun and the couple believed he was trying to rob them both when the killer tied them up and stabbed both of them repeatedly and rapidly viciously. He walks up 500 yard to Bryan's car and drew the symbol on his hoodie on the left car door then wrote under it “Vallejo/12-20-68/7-4-69/Sept 27–69–6:30/by knife.” The killer calls the police on a pay phone and the sheriff being 27 miles away from the attack site. They get there and see the couple, they rush them to the hospital by airlift. The phone was found off the hook with a fresh fingerprint on it. It was taken hoping to find a match but there was no match. The couple sustained major injuries to the Bryan was able to survive and give a description of the suspect while the girl went unconscious while in the helicopter and died 2 days later in the hospital. Bryan recovered fully and told the whole story to the police and the press this story went huge in San Francisco. Another murder by the Zodiac Killer this started to get the city a bit spooked. With enough evidence to send this guy away but enough evidence to also send him home. Reports showing clear evidence according to Buzzfeed.com “The day of the third Zodiac attack at Lake Berryessa, Allen told his family he was going to that exact location. He came home that evening covered in blood, with a bloody knife in his car.”(Bergara) Not only is that creepy but Cecilia Shepard was also murdered on that day with a knife. In 1974 Allen was convicted of child molestation and spent 3 years in jail. Coincidental there was no letter received by the press nor the police in that time Allen was locked up. Along with being in jail inmate Ralph Spinelli spoke to the police after Allen was released and said that Allen admitted to being the murderer of Paul Stine the cab driver back in October of 1969. Information from Buzzfeed.com In 1991, Mike Mageau, the man who survived the second Zodiac attack, picked Allen out of a lineup of photos as the killer. With the police then checking his house again and finding bombs and bomb formulas in his trailer. All this evidence is leading to naming him the notorious killer but evidence from the composition sketch the police drew up doesn't show any resemblance. The police went and had him do handwriting test and his handwriting was not a match. The DNA on the stamp of the letter sent to the San Francisco Chronicle went under test and was not a match to Allen
