The French people revolted against their government under the lead of Maximilien Robespierre. During the Reign of Terror over 16,000 people died from guillotine. The Reign of Terror was not justified because it was unnecessary, it was brutal, and the people had their basic rights denied.
It was unnecessary because so many people already had died. It was unnecessary because Document D states, “six patriots have already fallen victim to this rabble, but at least forty of their number were killed.” People are dying because they have different thoughts.
