Most of the fundraising comes from donations and pledges. Federal funding for research, education and training has contributed about 75 million dollars to the Lupus foundation of America. The organization also gives grants and awards for research on lupus. The Lupus Foundation for America is a charitable organization securing most of their funding from donations. Some of the organizations that contribute are: Cigna Foundation, Biogen Idec, Carpenter, Colgate, Coach foundation, hospital for special surgery and Kearny Federal savings just to name a few (America, 2017). There are large numbers of corporations that support the research of lupus to find better medications and treatment for those who suffer from lupus. The foundation also accepts donations such as household goods, vehicles, stocks and securities, and payroll donations. If the organization is not supported research could potentially begin to fall behind. If researchers don’t get the support financially they cannot perform clinical trials, or get the tools and resources they need to perform research this could hinder the advances on research for lupus leaving another disease to go without a cure. Lupus foundation of America also uses research to educate policy makers so if the organization didn’t get the support laws and policies pertaining to cancer in general could change. The organizational structure, I believe, works due to the variety of National board of directors and representatives from different states such as Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Oklahoma, New York, Virginia, California Florida and Illinois.
