Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is a premier 3-day music festival, which occurs once a year in April. It is held by the AEG-owned concert promoter, Goldenvoice. (Martens & Pham, 2012)
History
Paul Tollett (head of Goldenvoice) held the first Coachella event in October of 1999. He is famous for saying “For Southern California, this could be the start of something really special.” (Staff, 2015). Paul was right, but it was not an easy journey to the top.
The first Coachella compromised of two days of music at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The Polo Club could accommodate 35,000 people a day and consisted of four music stages (Staff, 2015). The music performers included well known bands such as The Chemical

This helped in Goldenvoice’s financial woes, as well, helped after the profit loss from the first Coachella (Rashidi, 2012). Since then Paul Tollett continues to be president of Goldenvoice and the biggest fan of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Location
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is held annually at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Development Stage Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is in the mature stage. It has a well-developed, refined, and tested music festival model; which is duplicated all over the world. It has signed on to continue to use the location in Indio, California until 2030 (Rys, 2013). As well, Coachella and Goldenvoice have promoted it well and have developed it into a lifestyle and culture within itself. This culture does not end with the 3-day festival, but continues throughout the year. It has partnered with companies such as trendy clothing line H&M to sell and promote the Coachella Festival and its culture. It has shown growth potential too. Goldenvoice has been talking about (with no set plans) on developing a similar or duplicate Coachella for the fall months. They offer, not only three days of music by world renowned artists, but a three-day cultural experience. Consumers can also choose to carry this cultural experience throughout the year with following their Facebook page, as well as Festival website, for sneak peeks and hot new trends and details concerning the next festival. They offer experiences from car camping to sleeping in a VIP tepee on Lake Eldorado. They combine the festival with attractions like a ferris wheel and colorful lights and art pieces. Each Coachella consists of 100s of different vendors each year selling anything from food, drinks, and merchandise.
