Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is a civilian foreign intelligence service of the U.S. Government, tasked with gathering, processing and analyzing national security information from around the world, primarily through the use of human intelligence. They don’t have any arm force tactical units as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI functions with domestic intelligence while CIA focuses on foreign intelligence. The CIA was formally created in 1947, and the CIA grew out of the World War II Office of Strategic Services (OSS). U.S. intelligence and counterintelligence efforts in the past was being conducted by the military and the FBI and suffered from duplication of responsibilities and functions, competition between agencies and agents, and lack of coordination. These problems continued to some degree into the 21st century. …show more content…
The creation of an Office for the Director of National Intelligence is the most noticeable. Today, the IC is challenged in ways it has never been faced with before. From terrorism to pandemics to economic stability has now become an intelligence issue. For these reasons, the IC has shifted focus to a world in which they are going tech-savvy both domestic and internationally on terrorists, transnational criminal organizations, failing states, and economic instability are now a way of life.
