The first initial plan was to bring back life to El Paso, the owners wanted to bring family fun affordable entertainment. They wanted to improve the quality of life that the experience was more than baseball. Also before the team name was revealed the fans got to choose out of 5 mascots and vote for their favorite, they put out teasers of each one on TV and online. The final decision was the Chihuahua whose name is Chico, which brings a fun atmosphere to the game. Angela mentioned that during one of the games a group of high school kids, came up with the slogan “Fear the Ears.”
The owners had a vison, position, and purpose when deciding to create a team in El Paso. The owners probably developed a SWOT Analysis to see what internal and external factors the team could bring to the town of El Paso. Getting the fans involved in the naming of the team was a big step and great marketing strategy. The citizens of El Paso probably feel part of the team because they were part of the naming process.

The team has different ways of entertaining fans by video board contest, on the field MC and having theme nights. To close out the interview I asked Angela about doing a job shadow with her during Adrian College’s Spring break. She said sure and for me to get a hold of her in the end of January to discuss further details about it she was open for doing 2-3 days. Doing the job shadow will benefit me on knowing the inside perspective of the sport industry also this will be a great networking contact for me as well, for the future.
Everything that we have been learning in class has been used in Angela’s career from getting butts in seats to selling techniques and knowing your demographic. This interview has taught me how to apply what I learn in class to real life situations and seeing it all come together step by step. This also taught me how to talk to someone is this field and how to network myself and a great career opportunity by learning how to network myself. I’m sure that Angela is one of many contacts that I will have in my career and as they say it’s not what you know it’s who you
