This time she was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, emphysema, and a bowel obstruction. I spent two weeks living and sleeping in a hospital waiting room watching her slowly pass away. Although her body was declining and she was on a ventilator, she was still there mentally. In her last days, I made a promise to her that I was going to put myself through nursing school and follow my newfound dream. She knew about my passion for nursing and wanted to see me do better than she ever did herself. It has been five years since she has passed and I still have plans to keep my promise to her. Passing NCLEX on my first attempt would mean that I kept my promise to her. Knowing that I followed my passion would make her happy and for this reason, makes me happy. Aside from that, passing NCLEX on the first time would set me up financially to help me better myself. I can finally get the house of my dreams and possibly begin traveling the world as travel nurse. I have aspirations to explore world and nursing can be an outlet for that. Above all, it is important for me to pass boards on my first attempt simply to prove to myself that I can do this. Getting my license after taking NCLEX would show that everything I went through in nursing school was worth it and I picked the right path. As mentioned previously, I met two very special nurses who took care of my grandmother during her time of need. When spending time with those nurses as they provided care to my grandmother, I was instantly attracted to their caring sense of nature. They were such gentle people who were extremely compassionate about what they were doing. That pure compassionate tied with their complex knowledge and understanding of health sciences made me want to become a nurse myself. Prior to nursing school I had no experience in caring for people. I was never a certified nursing aid or medical assistant. I volunteered for two years during high school on a pediatric unit and loved it. Spending time on that unit was a far as my medical training went at that point in my life. Now as I am about to graduate school, I realize there is so much more to nursing than I ever let myself realize. There are so many specialties one can train in. I would really like to work in high demand Labor and Delivery unit and so my work is not yet over. After graduation I plan on interviewing for an emergency department position. It is rather difficult to be hired into a Labor and Delivery unit as new graduate with no experience. To help soften my sharp edges I plan to gain some experience in the emergency department. Being that all kinds of people are seen in the emergency room, I feel this will help me grow enough to possibly be considered for Labor and
