1980’s marked the beginning of a new era in fashion of ”inexpensive high fashion” where designer and brand logo became adopted as a part of street culture. Wearing larger than life logos, gave us a sense of belonging and association and by wearing them we declared loyalty to the brand and what it stood for. We felt proud wearing t shirt that we could afford luxury. the brand you chose to wear helped you define – in some way or another- your lifestyle.
Logos associated with status and expense, such as BMW and Mercedes car mascots in the shape of corporate logos, were worn as jewelry by American rap artists.Heavily branded sportswear by Nike and Tommy Hilfiger (where the logos became increasingly prominent) was worn with a brash, competitive
