Elementary students learn about George Washington and that he was the first President of the United States. They can tell the story about how he chopped down a cherry tree and declared that he “could not tell a lie.” That story about Washington stands out for kids, along with the fact that George Washington had wooden dentures.
Although many facts about Washington have been obscured by tall tales and legend, the story of those wooden false teeth stands out in American lore. The teeth were in truth the very best to be had in that time and were made using the teeth of various animals. They were painful to wear and impossible to keep clean, but a general lack of dental hygiene made dentures a necessity for many people

1776 was written by renowned author David McCullough and retells the events of the American Revolution. The book closely follows George Washington as he commands the American army through the hardships that they faced in these times. Both Washington and his soldiers dealt with harsh conditioning which lead to low morale. This sense of overall gloom contributed to the departing of many of the soldiers in the war and some even took weapons or other trinkets of war as collateral for their time spent. Washington is seen today as a outstanding general and the main reason for the overall victory of the independence of America but at the time he was seen as unfit for such a high possession in the army that would be leading a Revolution against the British Empire.…

Oates Paper When you think of Abraham Lincoln, you think of Honest Abe, the Great Emancipator, the common man’s president, etc. Stephen B. Oates in his book, Abraham Lincoln: The Man Behind the Myths, gives an insight into the real Lincoln, showing a different view of Lincoln. The core argument of George Washington and the American Military Tradition is that the military traditions from the Colonial period, and those developed during the American Revolution, had a lasting impact on the American military tradition and that those traditions can be seen through George Washington’s life as a military commander. The book makes this argument by focusing on colonial military traditions, civil-military tensions during the American Revolution, and tracking the influence of George Washington’s impact on the American military tradition through time. However, to fully understand the arguments throughout this work it is important to first understand Dr. Higginbotham’s background, the sources he uses, and the context from which his chapters originated. Dr. Donald Higginbotham attended Washington University of St. Louis and completed his PhD at Duke University under Professor John R. Alden and later became a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He wrote extensively on the American Revolution and was thus invited to deliver the lectures contained in his work, George Washington and the American Military…

George Washington’s last wish as president of the United States was for the political system to not be tainted by political parties; however, the Federalists and democratic republicans quickly destroyed any hope of this. Both sides had contrasting political views and steadfastly held their position. The leader of the democratic Republican Party, Thomas Jefferson, was a major advocate of states’ rights and fought venomously against Federalist policies such as the national bank. Yet, when he became president of the United States, his views started to change. Before his presidency, Jefferson was an ardent supporter of states’ rights and restricted government; however, once he became president, he began to use the government’s power for his benefit.…

George Washington was considered a good leader because he was the first president and valued his people’s voices. He had struggles when he was a general, but he also was a hero with his sacrifices he made. He was never paid in the Continental Army and nearly became bankrupt when he returned as President of the U.S. When he was general there were battles that made him look like a hero, for example, “Braddock’s Defeat” when Washington had to take command after the general in charge was badly wounded. He later courageously led his men to a successful retreat. And another successful battle was when he led the Patriots to a victory against Great Britain (1775-1783).…

George Washington, a prime example of what one regards to be a great leader. Dependable, communicative, and charismatic are all words that surface when asked to describe George Washington. Being an introvert, if I had to be as communicative or charismatic as Mr. Washington, I would be terror-stricken, but that does not mean that I am not an awe-inspiring leader like him. Our first president may have been a heroic leader, however, there are many other remarkable leaders that do not fit within that definition. Rosa Parks, a seamstress that has influenced millions of individuals through her actions alone without being as communicative as Mr. Washington.…

If ranking presidents from best to worst, Washington by far has been the best president following him would be Jefferson then Madison and finally Adams. They all had very good presidencies, but some were better than the others. One was viewed by the public as a hero, the other was viewed as the writer of the declaration of independence, Madison was considered the father of the constitution and Adams was just viewed as a stubborn man. I choose president Washington as the best one because he was this nation very first president and everyone respected him. Washington easily could’ve become a dictator or a king, but he refused it, he wanted justice for the united states.…

After George Washington’s death, the young states divided as ever has argued and debated things that we do still today. But there were certain changes that had shaped these states into the nation it is today. But before his departure, Washington made a letter to warn us of things to look out and avoid in the distant future and we went ahead to do those many things anyways. First, Washington told us of the benefits of the government and this is because the taxes we pay do go into everyone’s protection, protects businesses, our rights and that our taxes were necessary for us all to prosper and without them, we will never make any progression. Secondly, Washington warned us of our party systems, “it opens the door to foreign influence and corruption.”…
