Dekalb County Fire Department

Firefighters have been needed since the beginning of time. Over time fire departments have been improving their strategies every day for the safety of their men and women. I am going to discuss the history, careers, vehicles and equipment, and the hiring process for the Dekalb County Fire Department.
The first recorded organized firefighting service dates to the Roman Republic in the first century BC. Since then the evolution of firefighting has changed drastically. I will now talk about the different vehicles and equipment that Dekalb provides. Each vehicle has its own purpose and job it’s used for. For example, at stations 23 in Dekalb there will only be one engine, a tiller truck, and a Battalion Chief that runs about the station. The equipment that the fire department will use can vary depending on what vehicles are at the station. For example, at station 23 in Dekalb County the equipment that is on the engine will be a pipe wrench, cardiac monitor, drug box, air packs, hacksaw, chainsaw, axes, pry bar, etc... On the tiller truck there will be a drug box, tool set, sledgehammer, bolt cutter, 14’, 28’, 35’, and 40’ ext. ladder, 16’ and 20’ roof ladder, water cans, gas cans,
