History Day Christopher Columbus

For our 2016 National History Day Project, we have decided to do research on Christopher Columbus. When we first heard that the theme was encounter, exchange, and exploration, we couldn’t decide who to do. There were so many people with such amazing contributions and traits that were able to fit into this year’s theme. We thought, who is the most famed explorer in the world? The name that came to us was Christopher Columbus.. We knew only what limited information was taught to us and his famous accomplishments. There was more to it, however. Some of the first research we did we found that some of the stories that we had were real but some were not. So of course we decided to learn more. We conducted our research very methodically.We split up the work that we had to do. We did most of the research online, and read about him in his many different books. We also watched other documentaries online to get a feel of what our project should be like. These videos, websites, and book gave us some great background on his most important work and overall life achievements. We finalized our topic of research and what kind of project we were to do. We had a timeline to follow. We started to map out the basics about Christopher Columbus to find a good thesis statement. After that, we got to the point of making a rough draft of the documentary. We also started to find historians and people we believed would have better resources and understandings to help us.
