The excitement had been growing as I landed at the airport in Mumbai, India. I would to get see new sights, experience new culture and learn where my roots had originated. As I left the airport I was culture shocked by what I was witnessing. The sceneries, the people, the environment was so different from what I had been use too. The architecture had been ancient and had so much meaning. The temples or known as mandir’s carried sacred meaning. My experience with the different scared spaces gave me knowledge on culture and the history of my heritage. India has so many scared spaces such as the Great Stupa in India and the Kandariya Mahadeva in India, which carry significant spirituality and religious art aspects.

He became to known as to helping in building hospitals and schools across India. When Ashoka changed his faith to Buddhism he unveiled Buddha’s remains and dispersed them into thousands of Stupas across India. One of those many Stupas is The Great Stupa built in Sanchi, around the Great Stupa there are four gateways, or they are called toranas, placed at the four cardinal points that is wraps around the large mound. From the brackets of the toranas hang sensual female figures. These figures symbolize creation, and richness, and all foundations of life. The stupa itself consists of a foundation holding a curved dome, is called anda, which symbolizes the dome of heaven that covers the earth. It is prevailed by rail unit that is square called harmika. Which represent the world mountains, from which ascents a pole or known as yashti symbolizing the cosmic axis. The pole bears umbrellas or called chatras these represent the many heavens devaloka.
