He banged his fists against the steering wheel. “Move, damn it, move, move!”
Nope, nothing but red brake lights for as far as the eye could see. He wanted to hop out of his car and run down the road screaming that this was an emergency, and for people to get the hell out of the way, but he resisted. He had to stay calm or he’d never make it. And the fact his husband was in the hospital was all his fault.
Taking a deep breath, he thought back to earlier that morning.

“Tonight, there’s a special on the History Channel about the Great Barrier Reef.” Gwaine opened his eyes and smiled. “Will you watch it with me?”
“Great Barrier…?” Percival couldn’t stop himself from laughing. “You’re on your deathbed, and your first thought is the History Channel? Why am I not surprised?”
They shared a chuckle, and carefully, Percival leaned in and gave Gwaine a quick, gentle kiss on the lips. “I am so sorry for what I did before,” Percival said. “You mean everything to me, and if you want to listen to your shows with the volume blasting, I’ll wear earplugs. We’ll make it work.”
“No need. I ordered headphones off Amazon last night. Because I love you, too, my strapping hubby.”
A stout, white-haired doctor strode into the room. “Ah, you must be Percival. Your husband is the man of the hour for saving that child. I’m Dr. Gaius White. I’m so sorry I couldn’t give you information over the phone. I hope you’ll forgive me.”
“It’s fine. Will he be all right?”
“He took quite the hit, but after a splenectomy and a few pins in his tibia, I am certain he’ll recover well. I’m shocked he wasn’t injured far worse. But I’m afraid we must bring him up to surgery right
