Many, including my parents, left behind friends and family members. My parents go to India at least one time every year just to see their parents and siblings. I always resented not having my relatives close to me like many of my friends. Holidays have always been celebrated with my parents and my sister. It is difficult for me since I have went six years without seeing my grandma and nine years without seeing my cousins. My parents are multilingual and are fluent in English and Telugu (language from India). In the chapter, it states that people who are bilingual often pick one language over another and are not equally fluent in both. I’ve noticed this to be true with my parents. My mom, for instance, will speak to us in Telugu rather than English since she is more comfortable with that language and prefers it. When I was younger I did not understand the change in deciding what language to speak and thought she should speaking English majority of the time. Now I understand why she made this decision and appreciate the fact she still speaks it since it is a way of holding on to her
