As I got older I bought a slave to assist me in my needs. My slave had said that I had been the best owner he has ever had. He lived inside my house and I treated him with respect and dignity. My slave was educated enough that he could have a full on conversation with me. One of the first stories he shared was the condition he was in when he was brought to the Colonies. He said as he was taken on board he was stripped naked and examined from head to toe by the captain and the surgeon. He said the men were packed together below deck and were secured by leg irons. That there was no space and was packed in the ship lying down and had nearly no room to move. Some were lucky because they would be placed in a space,
