Historical Event Research Paper

Past events are considered historical if they are meaningful and made an impact on the country. Every person has their own perspective on historical events. These personal perceptions are formed by a number of circumstances and can change through their life. Historical events can have various impacts on people depending where they lived in the country, and when an event took place. So much historical knowledge can be gained through hearing someone discuss events they were alive to experience. Finding out how events influenced people’s lives and how they presently do, is a valuable aspect to understanding why they are important, and the impact they had one the country.

When asking him the general question of what historic event is most memorable to you, it took him a little while to decide. Hesitantly, he replied the O.J. Simpson chase and trail. Coming home from work one night, he remembered turning on the TV to see the chase being broadcast live. It was surprising to him. He followed the proceeding trials, and thought it was crazy how much media coverage it got, and how that had an effected on the outcome of the case. It made him question the justice system, and helped him realize that with the right lawyers and enough money you can get out of a serious crime. The following question I asked was about the Bill Clinton impeachment. I wanted to know how he saw people of various age groups react to the impeachment. He remembered some older people that wanted to see him removed from office, but a lot of people he knew around his age did not see it as a big deal, and believed he should remain president. Without much hesitation, he replied the Watergate break-ins, leading up to the resignation of Nixon. One of the questions I had prepared for him was regarding the Watergate Scandal and Nixon’s resignation. He answered my entire question without me asking any of it, and continued to discuss the topic for about fifteen minutes. He was in high school when the scandal and hearings began. The hearings lasted several months, he found it fascinating, and followed it very closely. He watched it on TV, and said it was like a movie with characters involved, all leading up to the conclusion of Nixon being forced to resign. He noted that he could sense that Nixon was Crooked from the beginning. He said the whole incident made him cynical about the operations of politics. It left a lasting effect on him, a stain upon the integrity of the office of president
