April 15, 2001, a historical day. Historical events happen everyday some are extremely significant and everyone is aware of them, and some go by unnoticed by most. On April 15, 2001 very historic events took place, in addition to my birth. This is the most important day in history because the resurrection of Jesus occurred, tax day struggles intensified, and Fred Lebow was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. A wonderful day every year but especially in 2001. Easter is the most essential holiday in the Christian religion. It was a wonderful day with family bonding and sweets to enjoy. Churches gave out candy with, “a biblical passage on the label and a cross on each piece” (Demasters, Sweet Salvation). This is the message that is most significant. The churches wanted to teach the children the true meaning of the holiday, not just enjoying chocolate. Easter is celebrated two days after Good Friday to commemorate Jesus’s crucifixion. Jesus is established as the powerful son during this time because of his astonishing rebirth. He was a role model for many, influencing people to be more active. In his lifetime, he completed 69 marathons in 30 different countries. He created the following races: the Empire State Building Run-Up, the Fifth Avenue Mile, and the L'eggs Mini-Marathon. He helped encourage women to participate specifically in the L'eggs Mini-Marathon, which was the first race made for women only. He also was a marathon biker as well as runner. He participated in the five-borough race every year, which he also created.
