Our Lady of Victories, Catholic Church Glenelg was established in 1927, when it was blessed and opened on the afternoon of Sunday the 20th of November. The commencement of the Catholic Church in Australia came with the First Fleet in 1788, which consisted of mostly Irish convicts. However it was not until 1800 that the first priests arrived in the colony. Our Lady of Victories Church replaced an earlier church which was opened in 1869, on High Street, Glenelg. However the Lutheran Church has been established as the oldest protestant denomination of the Christian religion, founded by Martin Luther. Both denominations share the same Triune God and principle beliefs, including the same Apostles Creed. However, the Catholic Church uses Rosary Beads, and this is due to the rose being one of the flowers used to symbolise the Virgin Mary. Members of the Our Lady of Victories, Catholic Church are known to spend a lot of their time praying to Mary, where the Lutheran Church doesn 't follow in this. Although both Catholics and Lutherans take a sacrament to have the Eucharist during their mass, the Lutherans refer to this as, “The Lord’s Supper”. The Catholic Church consists of seven sacraments, Baptism, Holy Communion (Eucharist), Penance, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick. Also, although the St Paul’s Lutheran Church mainly celebrates the resurrection and rising of Christ, it acknowledges the ‘last supper’ and communion to be an important part of Jesus’ journey. However the way these churches worship is slightly different. The Catholic Church prays to saints and Mary through pray and the rosary, where the Lutheran Church focuses its prayers solely to God and Jesus. Also the source of music for the Our Lady of Victories, Catholic Church is from an organ and a choir, where St Paul’s Lutheran Church is prepared to have a band which plays more contemporary songs during a mass. The ethics and beliefs of the Catholic Church are made public through the Pope and his stance on current issues. The media usually scrutinises this and may form the Catholics opinion to be biased. However the ethics of the Lutheran Church are rarely found in the media or are made aware
