We moved from Ohio just over two years ago to Historic Cocoa Village. We consider ourselves the only two residents of this town as we live in the true heart, above a shop front. It is for that reason that I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to learn the history of the place we call home. Hundreds of miles away on interstate 95 you can see signs for Historic Cocoa Village what is it about this town settled by fisherman that make it so appealing to both young and old alike. With its cobblestone streets historic buildings like the Porcher House and the Cocoa Village Historic Playhouse which makes a visit here is a visit back in time but this time it includes unique shops and great dining. There is also a abundance of shops and restaurants and the Florida Historical Society Library is located here. The Florida historical society library which is located right in the heart of downtown Cocoa Village was opened in 1997. It was open to house the societies vast collection of maps and documents relating to Florida and it's history. The society currently has over 6000 historic volumes, a map of the collection, photos and manuscripts all about Florida. Unfortunately it is only available to the public by appointment for research. Some of the dining Ryan's pizza which just built a new building with that wonderful rooftop deck right by the Indian River. They also built a few storefronts as well to help secure business for the village. Ryan's has been a proud member of Cocoa Village since 2006 and they continue to grow and support it. Another great restaurant in Cocoa Village is Ossorio. They are a healthier option of dining when it comes to eating out. They try to make as much of their food from scratch as possible just like people of the past had to. Also like the people of the past Ossorio's cooks also cook their food with a brick wood fire oven which fills the town with the smell of oak and hickory. I imagine that is much like it used to smell like in the old days. Ossorio's had its moment in history recently when President Obama ate there he did so on a surprise visit to Cocoa Village in 2012 before he gave a speech in Melbourne about healthcare. Today Ossorio is this frequented by the many bicyclist that ride through Cocoa along River Road and the many visitors that come in from the Cruise ships that dock in close by Port

Charleston, South Carolina, the jewel of the south. A town that time has yet to permeate, where horse drawn carriages still serve as a mode of transportation, resulting in over 4.5 million visitors every year (“In Charleston, S.C., Resistance to Cruise Ships”). The men’s role in society was mainly for hunting and political decision making, but when necessary they were the ones who fought in military conflicts. On the other hand, the women’s role was farming and to tend to their children and property. Today, many Cherokee communities have taken steps towards building both industries and businesses. Even though there has been some headway in making businesses and industries within the Cherokee community, much of how they live are the still the same.…

Many things can represent the city of Miami to people. To me however, from daytime to nighttime, South Beach best illustrates what makes Miami different from almost every other city: diversity. Everything, from the sounds, feelings and tastes, to the smells and sights, makes one feel as though you are standing at the crossroads to the rest of the world. As you approach South Beach, crossing over the ocean on I-395, you can already hear multiple styles of music playing in the distance.…
