On the contrary breakfast in America culture usually small meal that includes an orange, apples, toast bread, and either milk or juice. It’s not typical for a teenager like myself to be caught watching a symphony. Due to this well-known stereotype, I was skeptical when I attended the Symphony of the Americas concert in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Most Hispanics tend to cook from scratch. Latin American typical cuisine things are maize based dishes, for example: tortillas, tamales, tacos, and arepas (Wikipedia). Sofrito are always used for a base in all of the Latin America cooking which just usually consists of garlic, onion, peppers and tomatoes cooking in cube sized and sautéed in a small amount of oil. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone were to tell me that there are more places in this state that serve tacos, burritos, pepusas, fajitas, etc. than there are places that sell the “all American” burger and fries. From what I have heard, nothing truly compares to real and authentic Mexican and Salvadoran cuisine made in their home countries, and what we offer here in California is often a more Americanized version of the food. However with that being said, this cuisine has become hugely popular amongst Californians.
