Despite his monotonous voice and actions, he was able to strike fear into the hearts of many Puritans, solely through his diction and elaborate use of imagery. The figurative language present throughout his speech could have been represented in several ways, including an image based on his descriptions of the human relationship with God. There were many sketches that illustrated the speech by Jonathan Edwards very well; however, one sketch in particular accurately brought the speech to life.…

It is impossible to write a book about the self without bias; each statement is crafted to appear a certain way. Consequently, readers must evaluate if statements made about the self are true or simply crafted through rhetorical devices. In one of the first books written of the self, Saint Augustine, later the Bishop of Hippo, writes of his conversion to Catholicism using a blend of rhetoric and scripture to persuade readers to evaluate their own selves. In his book, Confessions, Saint Augustine utilizes humility, contrast between the past and the present, and parallels from earlier passages and the Bible in order to create a persuasive stylized performance of his conversion to Catholicism. Humility plays a crucial role in Confessions and…

Could mentorship be a main underlining theme throughout the Books of Acts? In my opinion, yes! According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, mentorship is defined as “the guidance provided by a mentor, especially an experienced person in a company or educational institution.” After the combination of my years in CCD and a Catholic middle school and high school, I have come to the conclusion that there are many mentors in the Bible. Jesus can be seen as a mentor to many, or even all, Christians.…

As one dives into the book, “The Next Christendom”, one can be completely inspired, disappointed, or even challenged to make a difference in the world. Phillip Jenkins writes a marvelous piece about the spread of Global Christianity, and some of the challenges and trends over the years. In addition to the past, Jenkins goes as far as projecting the future of Christianity in the years 2050. Section One This writer believes that the Bible is the Word of God, it is divine authority, it is infallible, (John 10:35) and is absolute sufficiency (Galatians 1:8-9) This writer also believes in its unlimited inerrancy and that “it is God breath” (2 Timothy 3:16), and that this prophecy of Ezekiel 40-48 should be understood literally if one is to get the correct understanding, after all, it is a very precise prophecy of a very real future physical temple. Supporting specifics in the Ezekiel passage Firstly, Ezekiel 40-48 temple prophecy is very detailed and well-articulated and it’s an actual future tangible temple that is just as literal as that of Solomon’s Temple (1 Chronicles 22:14-15), “ that was filled with the glory of the Lord”…

True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…
